What is it?

This is a profession that deals with diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal. Chiropractic is considered more of a form of alternative medicine rather than conventional medicine. Chiropractors do not attend medical school but attend special chiropractic colleges and earn a Doctor of Chiropractic (DC).

How to become a chiropractor

To become a chiropractor one must attend a four year program in a handful of chiropractor colleges including Life University in the United States and Canadian Memorial Chiropractic college. Most programs require a BSc degree preferably in a field of science.  A number of applications choose to earn a degree in kinesiology as their pre-chiropractic degree as the field closely resembles chiropractic. Tuition for D.C programs usually runs between $20,000-$30,000 per year.

What type of work do chiropractors do?

Chiropractors usually treat musculoskeletal conditions including headaches, back aches and whiplash. They usually work in private offices sometimes in conjunction with other medical professionals including family doctors. Most people seek chiropractors’ help on conditions such as neck and back pain. Chiropractors may be able to relieve pain secondary to these conditions using spinal or neck manipulations. Chiropractors usually do not prescribe medications but may use X rays as a diagnostic tool for various conditions.
