Points to consider in chossing a health related program
- Plan ahead and think what area of Science of Health Sciences interest you. Check out the career planning websites of major universities to learn about different fields and areas. You can also lean about different health disciplines through different websites.
- Have a clear objective and plan. If you are planning to apply for Medical School, Dental School, Pharmacy, Nursing or Physiotherapy think carefully about the easiest and most efficient way to get there.
- Have a plan B in case Medical School or Dental School doesn’t work out. Choose a degree that you are both interested in and also has a career potential such as Biotechnology or Epidemiology..
- If you are planning to apply to professional schools that require a competitive GPA (Medical School, Dental School, etc). If at all possible, choose a BSc degree that has a light course load and gives you flexibility in taking electives so that you can achieve a high GPA.
- Discuss your options with a guidance councilor at the University or College you are planning to attend.
- Have a clear budget in mind and have a good idea about the tuition and other expenses you may incur for the field that you want to specialize in. This is especially true if you are planning to go to a private school versus a state school.
